Is there such a thing?
Absolutely!
We are all life-long learners and with anything we do in life, when we know better, we can do better. This also applies to parenting.
You may be familiar with terms such as mindful parenting, aware parenting, and conscious parenting, which I believe share a similar foundational understanding of being present in the moments and experiences you share with your baby, yourself, and your partner.
While these are all great, better parenting is a term I like to use to describe a broader approach to parenting, including:
- Being the best parent you can be with the knowledge, understanding and experience you have at the time
- Reflecting on your own image and experience as a parent
- Embracing growth, change and being a life-long learner
- Remaining curious about your learning journey as a parent
There is a TED talk I really like from Lael Stone about how to raise emotionally intelligent children. In one part she says, ‘Children can not be what they can not see’, this comment helps me strive to be a better parent each day.
I encourage you to have a look and see what information resonates with you and if you could adapt any of these ideas into your parenting experiences.
